Sound Unwrapped at Kings Place

This exciting series of concerts and performances, which starts on 19 Jan and runs throughout 2023, highlights artists and composers who explore the interplay between sound and space.

Radio 3 presenter and Mercury Prize-nominated composer Hannah Peel and electronic duo Space Afrika are Artists in Residence, and the lineup includes a host of artists from the worlds of jazz, classical and electronic music. Find out more here.

The series will bring together pioneering musicians and composers from across the globe for a year of immersive and ground-breaking performances.

Alongside more conventional concerts, there are many unexpected collaborations, with performers working across genres. Much of the work is new, while some is centuries old, like Monteverdi’s Vespers, written in 1610.

Kings Place is presenting this series in partnership with d&b audiotechnik, which has allowed them to install the state-of-the-art d&b Soundscape in their flexible Hall Two space.

d&b Soundscape is an alternative to the traditional left and right stereo system, using 19 loudspeakers in the round to open up a plethora of creative possibilities for artists, including the extension of the 360-surround dimension. Many of the Sound Unwrapped shows will utilise this technology.
