project.dirtThe Story Garden is set to return to the King’s Cross development with a new permanent space in 2022. In the meantime, Global Generation (the charity behind the Skip Garden project) has opened a new community garden tucked behind the British Library. And it has a brand new name, too – The Story Garden. You’ll find the latest information about the Story Garden here.

Offering a green oasis in the heart of the city, The Story Garden includes a tranquil orchard, a small oak forest, and, just like the Skip Garden, lots of beds for the local community to grow herbs, vegetables and flowers. The garden is designed to educate and inspire, with an emphasis on sustainability, looking after the natural environment, and understanding where our food comes from. There is even a fully-equipped kitchen for groups to cook and enjoy delicious meals, with ingredients sourced straight from the garden.

The Story Garden will host a number of workshops, special events, and projects throughout the year. One exciting project already in the pipeline is a collaboration with the staff and students from Central Saint Martins called MAKE, celebrating the power of making with tools, materials, and knowledge-sharing.

Global Generation - WinterWild Day - Skip Garden, King's CrossThe garden of a thousand hands

The Skip Garden is a community effort in every sense. Local young people, “the generators”, have worked alongside construction and office workers to build and run the garden, picking up invaluable skills and connections along the way. As well as growing food, tending beehives, making furniture and creating jams from scratch, the ‘Generators’– learn how to market and sell their produce. Find out more about the Global Generation and get involved here.
