Don’t miss Open House London weekend at King’s Cross!

Open House Festival is the capital’s largest annual festival of architecture and design. It’s a two week celebration of London’s homes, architecture and neighbourhoods over a two week period from 6 – 17 September.

Head down to King’s Cross for a fantastic lineup of themed tours guided by architects, historians and other specialists that will run on Thursday 7 and Saturday 9 September. They’ll show you around, take you behind the scenes and give you the low-down on this fascinating part of London. Tours are now available but places are filling up fast, so don’t hesitate. Book now!

Archaeology & Industrial Heritage Tour (1hr)

Join industrial archaeologist, Rebecca Haslam as she explores the fascinating history of the Goods Yard, from its early days as a rail, road and canal interchange for the Great Northern Railways to its recent renaissance, via aerial bombardment during the Second World War and subsequent years of neglect.

Rebecca will look at how this wonderful complex came close to being lost to vandalism and decay, before being sensitively restored and given a new lease of life as part of the current redevelopment.

This tour is accessible for all and open to all ages.

Energy Centre Tour (1.5hrs)

King’s Cross is one of the UK’s most energy-efficient developments, and the Energy Centre is the powerhouse that drives its sustainability and carbon efficiency. Join Stephen Kettle and Vivian Moreno from Metropolitain as they take you on a tour.

Join us, as we take you on a tour of the centre with its huge, gas-powered Jenbacher reciprocating engines. This district-wide energy system is one of the largest of its kind in the UK and is also the first site in Great Britain to be run on green gas reducing its carbon footprint by over 50% per annum.
