Location and Connections
The Western Transit Shed is located north of Regent’s Canal between Handyside Street and Granary Square. Handyside Street is the main commercial thoroughfare to the north of the canal.Six tube lines, two mainline stations and Eurostar are all within a five minute walk. The Western Transit Shed is adjacent to Central Saint Martins, the world’s most famous art college. There’s a lively mix of people who live, work and study in this part of King’s Cross.

About the building
Building Detail Concept design is by Stanton Williams Architects and design by Weedon Partnership Architects. The Victorian brick façades have been retained and contemporary finishes reflect the industrial heritage of the building and complement the historic elements.

The building is laid out over three floors. The upper two floors house 55,000 sq ft of office space with floor plates of c. 27,500 sq ft. A mix of cafés, bars, restaurants and shops are at street level in the Victorian brick arches.

The space is easily divisible and highly flexible. There are strong visual linkages between levels. This is enhanced by the stepped back mezzanine which can incorporate cut-backs, open staircases with views up, down and along the entire office spread.

There are two points of access and two receptions at ground level.

Environmental Performance
As with all the office buildings at King’s Cross, the very latest technology will reduce running costs for the occupiers and minimise environmental impact. The building will meet BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standard and will be linked to the site-wide district heating network.

Nearby Amenities
The cobbled streets around the Western Transit Shed will house an eclectic mix of cafés, bars, restaurants and shops. This area will be buzzing with students, office workers, visitors and locals who come to shop and eat here. The restaurants and shops in the new King’s Cross Station and St Pancras International are just five minutes away. And the best of the High Street will be available just across the canal on King’s Boulevard.

For an al fresco lunch, you can grab a bite from one of the street food stalls or food markets and head for a nearby park. There’s Granary Square, Gasholder Park or Lewis Cubitt Square to choose from.
