This pretty cobbled street hosts shops, pop-ups, events and workshops with up-and-coming and experimental brands
What makes Lower Stable Street intriguing is the entire street has been curated – yes, curated – by Kiosk N1C, the independent magazine turned design store. Kiosk N1C was commissioned in 2018 to create a design-led cultural hub in Kings Cross, bringing together forward-thinking brands and providing an incubator space for exciting emerging new businesses to develop.
The street includes a mix of longer-term tenancies – helping to enhance the sense of community in the beautiful bricked arches – alongside pop-up stores, experimental projects, and workshops running throughout the year. The street also hosts fairs, exhibitions, markets and events such as Craft Week, Independent Label Market and every weekend – Lower Stable Street Market.
What to expect from the street of the unexpected?
As well as handpicking the brands, Kiosk N1C operates a design store right in the centre of the street. There’s an event space for workshops and screenings, and a unique retail offering – find an edit of items from emerging fashion and lifestyle brands, as well as independent books and magazines.
If you’re a fan of design, you’ll love the nearby STORE STORE. This design shop with a difference is home to an innovative collective who run weekly workshops designed to make art more accessible to all. The project also aims to help young people into applied creative courses – especially those who might not have considered the pathway. As well as regular workshops giving a taste of what creative practice can offer, visitors will find unique pieces for sale, many made by students.
Music lovers won’t be able to resist a visit to Honest Jons. The record store and music label first opened on London’s Portobello Road in 1974, and is now selling their very specially curated selection of vinyl, CDs and books from their vibrant new digs on Lower Stable Street.
Also making their home in Lower Stable Street, are House of Cans, where you’ll find a celebration of craft beer, and Botanical Boys‘ forest-inspired store, which offers a chance to escape from the City and be surrounded by greenery. Plus, Hato Store – the concept and lifestyle store from the people behind the design studio Hato and Hato Press, Hiden Curry, the Japanese curry lab, and Roseur, who specialise in dried flowers.
