Ben and Darren AKA the Botanical Boys have been teaching people how to create their own miniature gardens at their terrarium workshops since 2016, and in 2019 opened their first plant-focused store at Coal Drops Yard. The duo have since opened a second store, this time specialising in sustainable, artisan homeware.

The entire range is created using plants and natural materials by local artisans in villages across Africa. The enchanting pieces include Wolof woven Senegal baskets, delightful carved Namji dolls, cheerful Tabor ceramic pots, richly colourful tablecloths, cushions, jewellery and more.

As well as beautiful homewares, the store doubles up as an interactive workshop, an educational studio, and naturally, you can pick up a plant or two as well.

Reasons to love Botanical Boys Homewares:

This is definitely more than just a shop: The Botanical Boys want everyone to have an opportunity to have plants in their lives and to try and help people live more sustainably with their handmade products from natural materials.

No two pieces are the same: Each handmade beautifully crafted object has a story to tell. Such as their Ethiopian Crosses, representing early Christianity in Ethiopia going back to 14th Century beliefs. The crosses are made from an old lost wax casting method making each cross totally unique.

Stay inspired: They were inspired to start Botanical Boys through their many travels across the world adopting planting ideas to bring back to their own garden. They then joined the National Garden Scheme which helps raise funds for lots of different charities. From there they took part in the BBC Great British Garden Revival programme helping to teach people about plants in shady gardens.

What to expect from the Coal Drops Yard store:

Expect a wide range of amazing and wonderful products, from Tonga baskets, to black and white photographs, to embroidered cushions and beaded chairs. This store is a treasure trove of unique objects.

As you can imagine the store is an explosion of colour and texture, happily transporting you out of London to another world.

Get creative and book a workshop with the Botanical Boys. Handcraft your own mini green world in a jar at one of Terrarium masterclasses.
